Green woodwork has many practical, therapeutic and experiential benefits for people with non-mainstream educational needs. At the Bodger’s Barn we are proud to offer regular workshop and woodland sessions that are tailored to suit your user group or organisation’s specific needs. We have extensive experience of working with a wide range of clients, including people with learning disabilities or mental illness; school excluded or problem behaviour children and young adults, as well as small schools and home educators.

With small group sizes (or one-to-one), dedicated year-round indoor workshop space and expert Forest School inspired craft tuition we provide carefully structured course programmes that nurture and develop the whole person through meaningful interaction with the natural environment and natural materials. Aside from developing practical workshop, woodland and craft skills, all of our course programmes aim to build life skills such as self-confidence and inter-personal awareness, communication skills, cooperation and physical well-being. Course programmes can be geared towards developing transferable Skills for Working Life, and the option of skills assessment and certification.

Themes and activities could include could green woodwork, practical tool skills, rustic furniture making, woodland and bush-craft skills, vocational environmental training ( e.g. coppicing, small scale woodland management, hedge-laying), Forest School, den building, fire lighting, camp craft, environment exploration, mini-beast safari, nature games . . . or a personalised programme that responds to the needs and interests of the individual learners.
